Jim Thorpe Trip
.
On Friday, November 6th, 35 members and friends of the AOH Dennis Kelly Division #1 from Havertown took part in a Division sponsored trip. First stop was a senic overlook over the mountains and town of Jim Thorpe PA. Photos courtesy of Terry Louge.

Also part of the trip was a guided tour of a coal mine with an explanation of how the mines worked, what hardships the workers had to endure and how the industry has transformed over the last 100 years.

While in the town of Jim Thorpe, PA, our group was treated to a guided tour of the Prison where the “Molly Maguire’s” were held and subsequently executed. These replica gallows were similar to the ones used to hang the Maguire’s. The prison also houses famous “cell 17” with the legendary hand imprint on the wall that is visible to this day. We also visited the Hibernian House in Girardsville PA where a descendent of Black Jack Kehoe continues to hold the original shackles that were used to confine him.

The trip, designed and set up by Brother Pat Shea was very well received and we will follow this route again in a few years. Stay tuned for another trip particular to Irish historical interest for the Fall of 2010.
