2009 Year In Review

2009 was a wonderful year for the AOH Dennis Kelly Division in Havertown. We welcomed many new members, had some fun, and helped a lot of people in the process. We held two successful fundraisers, our comedy night last spring and a beef & beer in October.

Our Division also sponsored a trip to Jim Thorpe PA and other historically significant sites in Carbon County. We also took part in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Philadelphia. Because of the tireless efforts of the brethren, we were able to raise enough money to donate $1,000 split amongst 5 different wounded soldiers returned from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, who were in need of a hand.

We were also in a position to help a local family after a tragic death, and make a donation to the “Duffy’s Cut project”. I urge you to read prior posts for a full explanation on this important archeological project in our area. Other recipients of Division donations were the St. Malachy’s School fund raising concert, Old Saint Josephs Homeless outreach, and 15 parish schools in the area which also received donation checks.

We are currently in the process of purchasing oil heat and having it delivered to two different families with children in need. These are homes that otherwise may have gone cold this winter.

2010 promises to bring its own opportunities and challenges. We plan to scale back to just 1 major fundraiser for this year, our Comedy Night in April. A soon to be announced very well known headline act will surely sell us out this year so be sure to check back often to the site to se when tickets go on sale and purchase yours immediately, as they will probably not be available at the door. The division is planning another bus trip to a historically and culturally significant spot, possibly Gettysburg, so stay tuned for that and jump on the bus tickets early as it will also surely sell out. We again plan to march in the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in March, and will be doing our AOH Night at the Phillies yet again.

We hope that this brief report on the humble but important progress of our Division over the past year will encourage you to help support us in our future endeavors, or to reach out and join our Division if you are not a member. Simply click on the "Division Officers" link and email one of us for more information. Our entire Division wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
