Division Day trip to the Gettysburg battlefield, Friday November 5th, 2010
.
This year, we will depart from the Grimes Center parking lot located on St. Denis Lane near Campbell Avenue in Havertown. Please be at the parking lot by 6:30 as the bus will depart at 6:45AM on Friday November 5th. Due to a tight schedule we will not be able to hold the bus for late arrivals. We travel on a deluxe motorcoach. Bus will be equipped with DVD player, TVs, and a bathroom.
.
Coolers of beer/soda are encouraged but SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED so when you arrive in the parking lot please work to consolidate coolers. Soft pretzels will be on board complements of the Division. We depart for the Gettysburg Tourist Center run by the US National Park Service where we will watch a 40 minute brief summary of the events leading up to the battle of Gettysburg and the 3 day conflict itself. The $7.50 fee for the tourist center admission and the film is included in the package price.
.
After the film we will re-board the bus where a licensed Battlefield Guide will join us and give us a private 2 1/2 hour guided tour of the battlefield explaining what happened at each site, paying particular attention to the contribution of the Irish regiments.
.
After our battlefield tour, the bus will drop us off in the Gettysburg town center for about 3 hours of "time on your own" for lunch and to explore the high concentrations of restaurants, pubs and shops all located within just a few square blocks of the drop off point, a map will be provided, but it is likely that a few roving pub crawls will ensue that you can join.
.
The bus will pick us up at the same spot for a 5PM departure back to Havertown, where we expect to roll in no later than 8PM. Just $30 reserves your seat on the bus and pays for your bus fare, admission to the tourist center and film, the battlefield guide and soft pretzels on board. There are no other out of pocket expenses on this trip other than what you choose to spend yourself in Gettysburg town. The extra bar take that we take in from the Division meetings is going to help subsidize this trip to keep the cost to the members reasonable.
.
We are glad to do frequent family trips and events throughout the year, but this one is a Guy's only trip. You are highly encouraged to bring your non AOH friends with you on this trip, prospective members for our AOH Division particularly but all adult males over the age of 21 are welcome.
